Congratulations to Alvin Shum for being selected as Temp of the month for November 2011!

"Alvin certainly has stood out for us in embracing our team culture. I realise it has been a couple of weeks since the World Cup has finished but Alvin was instrumental in helping create our team display for the World Cup, going over and above by creating decorations in his own time, helping to create a team song and also geeing up the rest of the team to get involved".

Credit Controller Crisis Hits Auckland!

The lack of experienced Credit Controllers in Auckland is creating more attention than the RWC! The recruitment industry is desperate for Credit Controllers who have previous credit control experience in a professional services environment. They would have at least 3+ years experience with advanced Microsoft Office skills. People of this calibre will also have a high degree of professionalism, a finely tuned prioritisation and organisational ability and, naturally, a positive, 'can-do' attitude.

Wellington Market Update

Wellington had a slow start to August but towards the end of the month there was an increase in the number of permanent roles. A pleasing change in that there were two sets of bulk assignment, which is less common in the Wellington market.

The continued increase in the Call Centre roles, both temporary and permanent offsets a slight slowing down with the accounting and finance roles, especially on the temporary side. Wellington has also enjoyed the increase in more permanent positions within Administrative Management/Call Centre Management in August which may show more confidence in the market.

Over all the Business Support market continues to be buoyant and Velocity is continuing to grow in both centres as a result.

Auckland Market Update

Over all August was a strong month for Velocity despite an obvious reduction in permanent positions. The temp market has been steady with a definite increase in short term temp assignments due to sick leave or extended holidays. There has also been a huge number of our current temps being offered fixed term or perm roles within companies, which reflects the high calibre of people Velocity have out there temping.

The market seems to be reverting back to the days when candidates had many choices and were in situations with multiple offers on the table. We have not seen many bidding wars for candidates, however, those clients who move faster, keep the communication open throughout the process and put their best offer forward are the ones securing the talent. With quality candidates being in high demand, Velocity has employed a Sourcing Consultant to ensure that we have the edge in attracting the best talent in the market for our clients when roles come in.

Numerous roles in different disciplines coming in from one client is a trend that we continue to observe. There has also been a marked increase in recruitment from professional services sector, with both temporary and permanent roles, for Team Secretaries and PA's.

Clients move quickly for the great candidates

Candidates in all disciplines; permanent, contract and temporary, are moving extremely quickly and clients have had to move in order to secure quality talent for their teams. To their credit many clients have adapted, often changing their normal processes in order to secure the candidates they want. This has been a learning curve for all of us, consultants, candidates and clients alike. Naturally, the good news is that this clearly tells us that the market is continuing to move forward in a positive way.

The Permanent side of the business is being kept on their toes with roles coming through thick and fast. Support staff are in demand, with an equal spread across all disciplines, including; sales support, legal secretaries, administrators and personal assistants. Contact Centre and Legal support staff are in especially high demand.
